Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director: Dhawan
started off as an editor before moving into directing. He specializes in
directing comedy films, most of which have featured Govinda, Salman Khan, Anil
Kapoor or Sanjay Dutt in lead roles, with Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi
Chawla and Sushmita Sen playing the leading actresses. Kader Khan, Shakti
Kapoor, Johnny Lever and Paresh Rawal appear in his films playing supporting
roles. His biggest success to date is 1993's Aankhen, starring Govinda and
Chunkey Pandey. His Partner (2007) also became a big success at the box office.
Dhawan is on the board of Asian Academy of Film
& Television and Asian School of Media Studies where he has been
honoured with an Academy Award by Sandeep Marwah. He was a judge on the Star
Plus show Nach Baliye 3 in 2008 and on the show Hans Baliye.
Dhawan first teamed with actor Govinda for the film
Taaqatwar (1989). He then formed a collaboration with Govinda and went onto
direct 17 movies with him as the leading actor, most of which were comedy
films. The films made by their collaboration are Taaqatwar (1989), Swarg
(1990), Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Aankhen (1993), Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No.
1 (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), Banarasi Babu (1997), Deewana Mastana
(1997), Hero No. 1 (1997), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Haseena Maan Jaayegi
(1999), Kunwara (2000), Jodi No.1 (2001), Ek Aur Ek Gyarah (2003), Partner
(2007) and Do Knot Disturb (2009). Aankhen became the highest grossing film of
the year and one of biggest all-time blockbusters ever. Partner, which
co-starred Salman Khan, grossed Rs.300 Million in India on its opening week, the
second highest domestic opening week gross for an Indian film until then. The
same year, Salman Khan invited Dhawan and Govinda on his show 10 Ka Dum to
celebrate their film Partner. Dhawan got back to the trio of Govinda, Vashu
Bhagnani and himself with the film, Do Knot Disturb.
My Gut Feel and comments:
David dhawan came back strongly last year with her remake of
Chashme Baddoor, movie was indeed special with apt casting and sensibly handled
non sense situation base comedy. Now with david dhawan is coming up with his
latest offering with his son Varun Dhawan in main lead under ekta kapoor’s
banner. Promos looks fines, songs are catchy and star cast is young.
It is the remake of successful Telugu movie
Kandireega as ekta kapoor brought the rights of this movie in Rs 2 crore. With
time although our cinema evolved and similarly our audience evolved however
still with single screen cinema has its share of audiences, main tera hero
would found its audience there. I somehow not very optimistic about
this movie and expected it to be an average full on masala entertainer which
would practically a onetime watch.
I would give this movie 2.5 stars out of 5 stars, five days before
the release.
