Unaware of her mother’s activities moments earlier, Kali asks her mother to call her estranged father, Shalini’s ex-husband, Rahul (Rahul Bhatt). It’s a Saturday, and Kali’s day with her father as decided in the custody agreement from the divorce. Rahul, an aspiring actor struggling to make it big, comes to take her for a drive but ignores her in favor of phone calls made to try to further his career. Finally, Rahul leaves Kali alone in the car to go to an audition and to check in with his agent, Chaitanya (Vineet Kumar Singh). When he returns to the car, Kali is missing.
Rahul first searches for Kali through the police, Chaitanya in tow. The local police-captain, Jadhav (Girish Kulkarni), does not take Rahul seriously until he realizes that Kali is the stepdaughter of the police-chief. Bose, out of hatred for Rahul, orders Jadhav to accuse Rahul of the kidnapping and to torture both Rahul and Chaitanya to interrogate and punish them. A game of one-upmanship follows as Rahul and Bose search for Kali while simultaneously attempting to upstage the other.

Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director:  Anurag Kashyap was born in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where his father Prakash Singh worked for the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. He grew up in Gorakhpur. He did his early schooling in Green School Dehradun and, age eight onwards, at the Scindia School in Gwalior. Some of the locations used in Gangs of Wasseypur are also influenced from his own old house where he himself lived with his parents, sister Anubhuti Kashyap and brother, Abhinav Kashyap. Abhinav is also writer-director, while his sister Anubhuti has been his assistant in most of his films.
Due to Kashyap's desire to become a scientist, he went to Delhi for his higher studies and enrolled himself into a zoology course at the Hansraj College (University of Delhi); he graduated in 1993. During his college days, he started watching films again and also got involved with drugs and alcohol. He was confused and depressed and had joined a street theater group, Jana Natya Manch; he ended up doing a lot of street plays. The same year, a couple of friends introduced him to world cinema; they "urged [him] to catch a de Sica retrospective" at the International Film Festival of India. In ten days, he saw 55 films at the festival, and de Sica's Bicycle Thieves was the film that influenced him the most; watching it "was an epiphany

Facts And Figures:
·         Anurag Kashyap had initially intended for Ugly to release in mid to late 2013. The Indian Censor Board required a "Smoking is Injurious to Health" sign to be posted in the lower right corner of the frame whenever a character in the film is shown smoking. Kashyap fought this regulation stating " it's the Health Ministry that should take the responsibility of curbing use of tobacco and work towards measures to control it and films should not be a medium to advertise      non-smoking." For a while Kashyap stated that he was not going to release the film until the Board decided to get rid of the rule, but after several months of negotiations, Kashyap decided that he would release the movie with the "Smoking is Injurious to Health" sign while continuing to change the rule. It is now going to release on 26th December, 2014.
·         Movie’s running time is 128 minutes and budget is moderate which a good.

My Gut Feel and comments:
Anurag Kashyap is back with his kind of cinema which is dark and revolves around the complex human mindset and relationships. Ugly seems to be dark and do have its share of audience who watch and admire anurag kashyap’s movie’s consider them as a treat against typical big banner movies who are too conventional to digest these day but ironically still make a mark on box office  because of extensive marketing and renowned star cast.
Atleast anurag is honest in his offerings and consistent to his instincts. Ugly is no different as story line, screen play and narration seems to be fast paced with twist in the tale. I am expecting it to be a sensible movie backed buy few honest performances from lead star cast.

Timing of release of this movie is not right as Amir Khan’s PK is just released this weekend and it is expected to rule next weekend as well which possibly shadowed ugly

I would give this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars, five days before the release.
