Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director: Sriram was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in a Tamil family to a botanist father and a movie-loving mother. He grew up in Pune, where he also did his schooling at the St. Vincent's High School.
He studied at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Rajkumar Hirani, one of his batchmates, edited his diploma film, The Eight Column Affair, which went on win National Film Award in 1987.
He started his career before joining the FTII for Stardust, but left since he wasn't interested in it. Post his FTII studies, he made a documentary Raman Raghav, with Raghuvir Yadav. Later, he met Ram Gopal Varma, who liked his work in Raman Raghav, and signed him up for the film Ek Hasina Thi, a dark thriller starring Saif Ali Khan and Urmila Matondkar.
He later went on to direct another thriller, Johnny Gaddaar, which marked the debut of Neil Nitin Mukesh. The movie garnered overwhelming response from the critics, though it didn't fare well at the box office.
His third film, Agent Vinod was an original spy thriller and not a remake of the 1977 film, starring Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor duo, produced by Khan himself.
My Gut Feel and comments:
Badlapur seems to be an honest effort from Sriram Raghavan which I feel should be paid off commercially and critically. I have observed this time and again that if a director stays true to his conviction and follow his creative instinct, always deliver respectable work.
Holding the same observation true for Sriram, he delivered “Ek Haseen Thi” and “Johnny Gaddaar” which were extremely interesting movies. However same director when burdened with the limelight of a banner that tried to offer the repetitive concept of a typical bollywood commercial masala movie, it fell flat. “Agent Vinod” was an example of the same pressurized performance that was low on creativity.
Coming back to “Badlapur”, Sriram being ingenious and holding on to his conviction that arises from his sensibility of cinema, appears to have come up with piece of work that is definitely a must match. Star cast is promising and appears apt for the plot. Screenplay seems swift and has mass appeal. Overall my gut shouts a thumps up for this movie.

I would give badalpur 3.5 stars out of 5, one day before its release date.

Release Date: 13th Feb 2015

Story line: Roy (Ranbir Kapoor) is a mysterious thief whom nobody seems to be able to get their hands on. Kabir Grewal (Arjun Rampal), a film maker, seems to be the only one making a profit from all of Roy's robberies. That is, by making multiple films based on Roy's life and robberies, all achieving high success. Ayesha (Jacqueline Fernandez), another filmmaker, is the new girlfriend of Kabir, who is also a playboy. How these three characters' lifes merge together in one dramatic, romantic and suspenseful thriller is what is in the story.

Facts And Figures:
·         Roy is Vikramjit Singh’s directorial debut. Vikramjit is reportedly a close friend of Ranbir from college.
·         Jacqueline Fernandez has a double role and will be seen essaying the role of a film director.
·         Although Ranbir kapoor projected as main lead however primarily film is lead by Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez. Ranbir has a small role which is ironically a title role.
·         The trailer of the film was released on 17th December 2014 and crossed over 1 million views on YouTube within 24 hours.
·         Budget of this movie is INR45 crore (US$7.1 million)

My Gut Feel and comments:
Trailer seems interesting and films scores full marks in presentation and styling.  Although it has been projected as a thriller however as far a pace of the movie is concern it appears slow and might not able to hold the attention of audience conventionally. Vikramjit Singh being a debutant director has experimented with story line, screen play and characterization which should pay off.

I would give Roy 3 out of 5 stars, five days before the release and expecting it to be one time watch.
