Storyline:
The film centers around Sultan Ali Khan (Salman Khan), a local wrestling champion with the world at his feet as he dreams of representing India at the Olympics.
It's a story of Aafra (Anushka Sharma) - a feisty young girl from the same small town as Sultan with her own set of dreams.
When the 2 local wrestling legends lock horns, romance blossoms and their dreams and aspirations become intertwined and aligned.
However, the path to glory is a rocky one and one must fall several times before one stands victorious - More often than not, this journey can take a lifetime.
Sultan is a classic underdog tale about a wrestlers journey, looking for a comeback by defeating all odds staked up against him. But when he has nothing to lose and everything to gain in this fight for his life match... Sultan must literally fight for his life.
Sultan believes he's got what it takes... but this time, it's going to take everything he's got.

Ali Zafar grew up in Dehradun, He has completed his schooling from Marshall school Dehradun. Later he joined Kirori Mal college for further studies and while studying in Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, he worked part-time in film Amu (2005).
Thereafter he shifted to Mumbai and started working with Yash Raj Films, where he worked as an assistant director under directors like Sanjay Gadhvi and Vijay Krishna Acharya.
Zafar made his debut as a director with the YRF hit Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011) which starred Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Ali Zafar in the lead roles.
His next directorial venture was with Gunday, which released on 14 February 2014. The film starred Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles, with Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan in the supporting roles.
My Gut Feel and comments:
A shoe that is too large is apt to trip one, and when too small, to pinch the feet. So it is with those whose fortune does not suit them.
Above statement holds no truth in the case of Sultan and Salman’s association with it. Going by the trailer Salman seems apt for the role and once again hit the bull’s eye with a movie which would do justice to his stardom and kind of cinema we associate with him these days.

Ali Zafar is experienced director who is associated with Yash Raj Films for long now and do understand the dynamics of showbiz.
His earlier directorial ventures were Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Gunday which were box office success even though were just above average movies.
Sultan is 2 hours 50 minute long which is a concern for me as Ali as director losses the grip especially in second half of movies which is avoidable by keeping the overall length of the movie short.
Its box office success is in a way guaranteed and this seems to be an above average typical Salman khan movie which holds mass appeal and indeed is a treat for Salman’s die heart fans.
Going by my gut feeling I am giving Sultan 3 stars out of 5, a night before the release.
