Storyline: The film is a satirical comedy film in support of Indian
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a governmental
campaign to improve the sanitation conditions in India, with emphasis on the
eradication of open defecation in public areas, especially in the rural areas
of India.
The film is written
by Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal, the writers of the 2013 Hindi film Goliyon
Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, and shares some similarities with a true event in which
19-year old Priyanka Bharti fled her husband's home in 2012, when there was no
toilet.
A filmmaker named
Praveen Vyas has sent a legal notice to the makers, claiming that ‘Toilet- Ek
Prem Katha’ has plagiarised scenes and dialogues from his documentary ‘Manini',
also based on the same subject
Know more about the captain of the Ship, the director: Shree Narayan Singh is an
Indian editor who is best known for his works in films like A Wednesday (2008),
Special 26 (2013), Baby (2015), and Rustom (2016). He edited directed lesser
known film “Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai”released in 2012.
My Gut Feel (MGF) and comments:
“How long is a minute? Depends on which side of the door of
toilet you are on when needed.” ― Toilet ek katha.
I have already seen the special
screening based on the same subject named “Gutrun Gutargun” which unfortunately
didn’t reached to larger audience till now. It was indeed a great attempt on same subject.
Coming back Toilet:Ek
Prem Katha, it
already created lot of buzz as backed by superstar Akshay Kumar. Shree Narayan
Singh the director of this movie is best known for his editing work works in
films like A Wednesday (2008), Special 26 (2013), Baby (2015), and Rustom
(2016). I am sure he has done a decent job as a director this time, although already
directed lesser known far below than average film “Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai”released
in 2012.
I hope with this film and its
accessibility to mass audience a serious subject like this would be addressed more effectively than
before, although Modi Government’s Swatch
Bharat Abhiyan is already doing reasonably well.
Toilet:Ek Prem Katha will be a
sure short box office success because of its mass appealing subject, Akshay
Kumar, entertainment value and its moderate budget of 18 crore. The film is released
on 11th August which is just before the national holiday of 15th
august which is an Independence day. The film has been already announced as tax
free in Uttar Pradesh.
Going by My Gut Feeling (MGF), I am
giving this movie 3 out of 5 stars one days before the release. 2.5 stars for Akshay
Kumar’s backing to this film and point five star additional for addressing
a serious issue in comic way and direction of Shree Narayan Singh which should
given an edge to over all look and feel of this film.
